1989 BMW 535i

I’m a bit of a BMW head and I can’t help it. This car was such a rad car to get to own and experience and I hope it will be the first of many oldies in this condition that I can get my hands on. I originally found this car in my previous career (Velofix) while working on a bike for a customer. The car was off in the corner of the driveway under a car cover and I just had to ask. After years of back and forth, the owner had come to terms with selling it and of course, I jumped right on it.

This car was originally purchased in Spokane in 1989 and lived in the northwest until about 2009 from what the records showed. It then moved to the rust belt of Minnesota which is of course a red flag to many potential classic car buyers, but in the 9 years it lived between Illinois and Minnesota it only had about 30k miles put on the car and was garaged the whole time. The original owner is the grandfather of the owner I bought the car from. Between the two family members, this e34 was owned by one of grandpas good friends. The stack of receipts to go with this car is insanely huge.

Onto the car though, this car was not only a time machine in the way it was preserved, but it still drove like a brand new e34. This car is a quintessential drivers car, the legendary m30 engine paired with a getrag manual gearbox and an lsd is truly a timeless combo. Of course for the time in 89 it was a pretty decently fast car and even today these cars definitely have enough pep to put a grin across your face. The analog feel is very hard to beat in these cars. The car sold brand new in 89’ according to the build papers for just shy of 47k. (For reference, thats as much as my personal 2006 Lexus GX470 went for brand new.) The luxury feel of real leather across all the touch points paired with the build quality of these old BMWs made for a very nice interior. This car still had all 5 factory style 5 wheels along with the factory tool kit in the boot and the bra it was originally ordered with. All in all this car was damn near a collectors quality car with 155k on it. This car now lives in Salt Lake City with a great new owner who appreciates the car just as much as its previous owners!
